In recent weeks the continuing policy debate over a possible Israeli strike against Iranian nuclear facilities has become all the more interesting, with the former head of Israel’s Shin Bet internal security service criticizing the Netanyahu government for excessive willingness to go to war, the former head of Mossad agreeing, the IDF Chief of Staff saying he didn’t think Iran had yet decided to build a nuclear weapon, and Israeli President Shimon Peres cautioning against a unilateral Israeli strike.
Leaving aside the question of should they/shouldn’t they, will they/won’t they, and what would it do/what would it not do the politics and civil-military dynamics of all this would make a great game all by themselves!
In the meantime, I’ve continued to update the Israel vs Iran war-game compendium here at Wargaming Connection, which now includes summaries and links for ten different recent crisis games on the subject. The latest, sponsored by the Israeli newspaper Makor Rishon, even included a US election campaign angle.
